How to convert HTML to Markdown
- 1
Paste your HTML
Paste raw HTML, or copy text from a web page and paste it into the input box. Copied rich text is turned into HTML for you.
- 2
Check the result
The Markdown output updates instantly as you type. Turn off embedded images if you only need the text.
- 3
Copy or download
Copy the Markdown to your clipboard or download it as a .md file, ready for GitHub, Obsidian or any Markdown editor.
What gets converted
Headings and text
h1–h6 become # headings; bold, italic, links and blockquotes keep their meaning.
Lists and tables
Nested ordered and unordered lists, and HTML tables become GFM pipe tables.
Code blocks
pre and code elements become fenced code blocks with the language class preserved when present.
Clean output
Scripts, styles and other non-content elements are dropped so only readable content remains.
HTML to Markdown FAQ
Is my HTML uploaded anywhere?
No. The conversion runs entirely in your browser, so nothing you paste is sent to a server.
Can I convert a whole web page?
Yes. Paste the page source or copy the visible content. For best results, copy only the article area, since navigation and ads are also converted if included.
Are tables supported?
Simple HTML tables are converted to GitHub Flavored Markdown tables. Tables with merged cells have no Markdown equivalent and are flattened.
What Markdown flavor is produced?
GitHub Flavored Markdown with ATX headings (#), fenced code blocks, and dash-style bullet lists.
